Educational Aims
To introduce students to the basics of both private and public law Child Law. To equip them to deal with an area in which judges are often exercising wide discretionary powers, guided by statutory frameworks. To help them identify the ideological bases of the social policies which influence the development of the law.Learning Outcomes
Understanding of basic private and public law Child Law.
Understanding of the competing ideological and social policy positions which influence the development of the law.
Ability to interpret and apply statutory provisions and deal appropriately with judicial authorities, particularly in the context of a largely discretionary regime.
Ability to apply the law to complex practical problems.
Ability to analyse and critically evaluate the law.
Ability to research areas of Child Law.
