Summary
This module further extends to an advanced level of French, strengthening the four skills of reading, listening, speaking and writing to enable students to gather and process information accurately and quickly through materials from a variety of sources, including original content in the target language, to enable students to be fully capable in all areas of the language. The module will be delivered in a blended modality for which students will be given access to a virtual learning environment with extra activities and resources.
The module includes three types of assessment format: Oral Exam (50%), Written Exam (50%), and a formative assessment in the form of an online mid-term assessment, which does not contribute to the final mark.
Please note this module is assessed at the end of in Spring semester. First sit/ Resit exams are scheduled normally in the summer and can take the same form as the missing/failed component of the assessment (exam, essay etc.) or other form, as decided by the School.
Target Students
Priority will be given to students doing the module as a compulsory element of their degree.Successful completion of French 5A or equivalent qualification. The Language Centre reserves the right to check students prior learning and qualifications and to move them to a more appropriate level if necessary.

Assessment
- 50% Oral exam: Oral 20 min
- 50% written exam (2-hour): 24hour take home exam

Educational Aims
This module aims to consolidate and extend the students’ knowledge of the subject by developing the four main language skills of speaking, writing, reading and listening. Special emphasis will be put on developing more sophisticated oral and written skills, enabling the students to deal proficiently and accurately with real-life situations (such as information-retrieval from written and spoken sources, resume- and report-writing in the Target Language).Learning Outcomes
If you complete 20 credit modules stage 5 in a language (Semester A and B) successfully, your level in relation to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) will be overall equivalent to up to B2+/C1.The following grid will help you assess your own level in terms of the CEFR, in the four different skills practised (Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing) along with the other skills you will develop (language learning, intercultural and professional). Course programmes based on this grid for Semester A and B along with assessment details can be found in the module handbook for each language.
There may be slight variations in individual languages offered which will also be specified in module outlines.
