Summary

This module further extends the intermediate level of Korean and of the four skills of reading, listening, speaking and writing acquired in Korean 4A. The aim is to enable students to gather and process information accurately and quickly through discussion, from the media, and from spoken and written sources. The module will be delivered in a blended modality for which students will be given access to a virtual learning environment with extra activities and resources.

 

The module includes three types of assessment format: Oral Exam (50%), Written Exam (50%), and a formative assessment in the form of an online mid-term assessment, which does not contribute to the final mark.

 

Please note this module is assessed at the end of in Spring semester.  First sit/ Resit exams are scheduled normally in the summer and can take the same form as the missing/failed component of the assessment (exam, essay etc.) or other form, as decided by the School.

Target Students

Priority will be given to students doing the module as a compulsory element of their degree.Successful completion of Korean 4A or equivalent qualification. The Language Centre reserves the right to check students prior learning and qualifications and to move them to a more appropriate level if necessary.

Educational Aims

This module aims to consolidate and extend the students’ knowledge of the subject by developing the four main language skills of speaking, writing, reading and listening. Special emphasis will be put on developing more sophisticated oral and written skills, enabling the students to deal proficiently and accurately with real-life situations (such as information-retrieval from written and spoken sources, resume- and report-writing in the Target Language).

Learning Outcomes

The course builds on the skills acquired from Level 4A, particularly working in groups and summary writing. Additional skills taught this semester include the use of the telephone for information retrieval and further aspects of cultural awareness.
