Summary
This module further develops students’knowledge of specialised Mandarin terminology used in the business environment. The manners and cultural niceties that characterize business interactions will also be explained in more detail. Each session will consist of a variety of activities to allow students to practice operating in a Chinese business setting. The module will be delivered in a blended modality for which students will be given access to a virtual learning environment with extra activities and resources
Requisites: Successful completion of Mandarin for Business Part A or equivalent qualification. Students must not choose this course if they are over-qualified. The Language Centre reserves the right to check students’ prior learning and qualifications and to move students to a more appropriate level if necessar
Please note this module is assessed at the end of in Spring semester. First sit/ Resit exams are scheduled normally in the summer and can take the same form as the missing/ failed component of the assessment (exam, essay etc.) or other form, as decided by the School.
Target Students
Priority will be given to students who are doing this module as a compulsory element of their degree.Successful completion of Mandarin for Business Part A or equivalent qualification.

Assessment
- 50% Oral exam: Oral, up to 30 min
- 50% Written exam (1-hour): Written examination, 1 hour

Educational Aims
This course aims to further enhance students’ linguistic skills and communicative competence while further improving their ability to communicate comfortably and confidently in the Chinese business environment. It is also intended to deepen students’ understanding of the macro and micro Chinese economic situation and the specific market needs of the country.Learning Outcomes

• A1 Deepen the understanding of differences between Mandarin used in daily life and in business environment
• A2 Develop a better understanding of the cultural differences between the Chinese business environment and that in students’ own country.

• B1 Understand the Chinese linguistic system both spoken and in written form in the context of the studied topics related to the business environment
• B2 Develop an understanding of cultural specificity regarding business

• C1 Produce business related documents in Mandarin; preparation of short report and written presentations on topics covered
