Summary


This module further extends the four skills of speaking, reading, listening and writing to enable students to gather and process information accurately and quickly through discussion, from radio and TV, and from written sources. Teaching methods involve intensive classes and the use of online materials.

Requisites:

Students enrolling this module should have successful completion of Mandarin 3A, or Mandarin for Advanced Level 3A (in Nottingham), or equivalent qualification. The Language Centre reserves the right to check students prior learning and qualifications and move students to a more appropriate level if necessary.

The module includes three types of assessment format: Oral Exam (50%), Written Exam (50%), and a formative assessment in the form of an online mid-term assessment, which does not contribute to the final mark.

Please note this module is assessed at the end of Spring semester.  First sit/ Resit exams are scheduled normally in the summer and can take the same form as the missing/ failed component of the assessment (exam, essay etc.) or other form, as decided by the School.

Target Students

Priority will be given to students doing the module as a compulsory element of their degree. Successful completion of Mandarin 3A, or Mandarin for Advanced Level 3A (in Nottingham), or equivalent qualification. The Language Centre reserves the right to check students prior learning and qualifications and move students to a more appropriate level if necessary.

Educational Aims

The overall aim of the module is to consolidate and extend students' competence to an intermediate level in the four skills of speaking, reading, listening and writing in Mandarin. Special emphasis will be placed on developing more sophisticated oral and written skills. Students will continue to develop their awareness of autonomy in language learning under the guidance of their language tutor.
