Summary
- The accent at this stage is firmly on the productive skills of speaking and writing.
- Each weekly session will consist of a variety of activities arising from the themes and structures which underpin the course programme.
- The passive skills of reading comprehension and listening comprehension will not be neglected as ample practice will be given in class in these particular skills.
- Students will be expected to participate actively, which involves preparation before classes and follow-up work after classes, in order to improve their skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking in the target language. Students are responsible for their autonomous learning.
Requisites:
- Successful completion of French 2B or equivalent qualification.
- The Language Centre reserves the right to check students prior learning and qualifications and to move students to a more appropriate level if necessary.
Please note this module is assessed at the end of in Autumn semester. First sit/ Resit exams are scheduled normally in the summer and can take the same form as the missing/ failed component of the assessment (exam, essay etc.) or other form, as decided by the School.
Target Students
-Priority will be given to students who are doing this module as a compulsory element of their degree.-Successful completion of French 2B or equivalent qualification.

Assessment
- 50% Oral exam: Oral examination, 20 min
- 50% written exam (2-hour): Written examination, 2 hours

Educational Aims
The overall aim of the module is to consolidate and extend students’ competence to an intermediate level in the four skills of speaking, reading, listening and writing in French.By the end of the semester students should be able to:a.understand the main points of varieties of inputs on matters encountered in work, school, leisure, etc.;b.deal with complex situations where they need to explain, argue, and discuss their opinions (e.g., agree, disagree);c.describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans;d.produce connected texts on topics which are familiar or of personal interest.Learning Outcomes

- French language structures at intermediate level
- More complex grammatical structures through the study of a broader range of topic areas across the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing
