Summary
This module builds on the language acquired in 2A by further development of speaking, writing and comprehension skills to enable communication in more complex situations. Grammatical structures of the language are practised with authentic materials. In addition, students are required to undertake a programme of autonomous learning. The module will be delivered in a blended modality for which students will be given access to a virtual learning environment with extra activities and resources.
The module includes three types of assessment format: Oral Exam (50%), Written Exam (50%), and a formative assessment in the form of an online mid-term assessment, which does not contribute to the final mark.
Please note this module is assessed at the end of Spring semester. First sit/ Resit exams are scheduled normally in the summer and can take the same form as the missing/ failed component of the assessment (exam, essay etc.) or other form, as decided by the School.
Target Students
Priority will be given to students doing the module as a compulsory element of their degree.Successful completion of German 2A or equivalent qualification. The Language Centre reserves the right to check prior learning and qualifications of students and to move them to a more appropriate level if necessary.

Assessment
- 50% Oral Exam: Examination,Oral 20 min
- 50% Written Exam (2-hour): 24hour take home exam

Educational Aims
The overall aim of the module is to develop further competence in the language by improving the four skills of speaking, reading, listening and writing. Students will continue to develop their awareness of autonomy in language learning under the guidance of their language tutor. Teaching is communicative with regular opportunities for pair- and group- work. There is emphasis on extracting and processing authentic language through the study of major topic areas. Emphasis continues to be placed on oral and aural skills, making full use of multi-modal resources available.Learning Outcomes
