Summary
The module develops the students’ ability to communicate at a beginner's level. The basic structure of the language acquired in the Spanish Language and Culture 2A or will be extended and consolated. Students should develop a basic understanding of everyday vocabulary and an awareness of the cultures in the countries where the target language is spoken. The sessions will consist of a variety of activities arising from the themes and structures that underpin the course programme. The module will be delivered in a blended modality for which students will have access to a virtual learning environment with extra activities and resources. Students are also required to undertake a programme of autonomous learning.
Requisites: Successful completion of Spanish Language and Culture 2A or, or equivalent qualification. The Language Centre reserves the right to check students’ prior learning and qualifications and to move students to a more appropriate level if necessary.
Please note this module is assessed at the end of Spring semester. First sit/ Resit exams are scheduled normally in the summer and can take the same form as the missing/ failed component of the assessment (exam, essay etc.) or other form, as decided by the School.
Target Students
Priority will be given to students who are doing this module as a compulsory element of their degree.Successful completion Spanish Language and Culture 2A or equivalent qualification. The Language Centre reserves the right to check students prior learning and qualifications and to move students to a more appropriate level if necessary.

- One 1-hour seminar each week for 11 weeks
- One 2-hour seminar each week for 11 weeks

Assessment
- 50% Oral Exam: Examination, Oral 10 min
- 50% Written Exam (1-hour): Written examination, 1 hour

Educational Aims
Students will continue to learn and practise the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing with an emphasis on the development of an interactional competence for specific purposes related to the course programme. This will enable them to manipulate the language and participate effectively in everyday social situations.Learning Outcomes

B. Intellectual skills: The ability to understand the standard Spanish linguistic system both spoken and in the written form in the context of the topics studied; Develop an awareness of cultural specificity
