Summary
This module assumes no prior knowledge of the language. It introduces the basic structure of the language through topics relating to social and everyday life in the countries where the target language is spoken. Each session will consist of a variety of activities arising from the themes and structures which underpin the course programme. Students are also required to undertake a programme of autonomous learning. The module will be delivered in a blended modality for which students will be given access to a virtual learning environment with extra activities and resources.
Students enrolling on this module must be complete beginners in German. The Language Centre reserves the right to check students’ prior learning and qualifications and to move students to a more appropriate level if necessary.
The module includes three types of assessment format: Oral Exam (50%), Written Exam (50%), and a formative assessment in the form of an online mid-term assessment, which does not contribute to the final mark.
Please note this module is assessed at the end of Autumn semester. First sit/ Resit exams are scheduled normally in the summer and can take the same form as the missing/ failed component of the assessment (exam, essay etc.) or other form, as decided by the School.
