Summary
The basic structure of the language will be extended and reinforced through topics related to everyday life. All four skills of speaking, reading, writing and listening are covered. The grammatical structures acquired in 1A will be consolidated and developed further. Students are also required to undertake a programme of autonomous learning. The module will be delivered in a blended modality for which students will be given access to a virtual learning environment with extra activities and resources.
Requisites:
- Successful completion of French 1A, or equivalent qualification.
- The Language Centre reserves the right to check students’ prior learning and qualifications and to move students to a more appropriate level if necessary.
Please note this module is assessed at the end of Spring semester. First sit/ Resit exams are scheduled normally in the summer and can take the same form as the missing/ failed component of the assessment (exam, essay etc.) or other form, as decided by the School.
Target Students
-Priority will be given to students who are doing this module as a compulsory element of their degree.-Successful completion of French 1A, or equivalent qualification.
Classes
- One 1-hour seminar each week for 11 weeks
- One 2-hour seminar each week for 11 weeks
- One 2-hour seminar each week for 11 weeks
The one-hour seminar will be delivered online.
Assessment
- 50% Oral Exam: Examination, Oral 20 min
- 50% Written Exam (1-hour-30-minute): Written Examination, 90 min

Educational Aims
-Students will continue to practise the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing as well as acquiring further basic grammatical structures.-This will enable them to manipulate the language and participate effectively in everyday social situations. Full use will be made of communicative methods.-Students will further develop autonomy in language learning under the guidance of their language tutor.Learning Outcomes
