Summary
The module develops the students’ ability to communicate at a beginner level. The basic structure of the language acquired in Korean Language and Culture 1A will be extended and consolidated.
Students should develop a basic understanding of everyday vocabulary, understand the rules of pronunciation, have a basic grasp of the relevant grammar for this level, and understand writing systems in Korean.
They should also develop an awareness of Korean culture.
The sessions will consist of a variety of activities arising from the themes and structures that underpin the course programme.
The module will be delivered in a blended mode with students having access to a virtual learning environment with extra activities and resources. Students are also required to undertake a program of autonomous learning.
Requisites:
Successful completion of Korean Language and Culture 1A, or an equivalent qualification.
Students must not choose this course if they are over-qualified. The Language Centre reserves the right to check students’ prior learning and qualifications and to move students to a more appropriate level if necessary.
Please note this module is assessed at the end of Spring semester. First sit/ Resit exams are scheduled normally in the summer and can take the same form as the missing/ failed component of the assessment (exam, essay etc.) or other form, as decided by the School.
Target Students
Students enrolling in this module should be at a beginner level in Korean (A1.1).
Classes
- One 1-hour seminar each week for 11 weeks
- One 2-hour seminar each week for 11 weeks
the second seminar will be delivered online
Assessment
- 50% Oral Exam: Examination Oral 10 min
- 50% Written Exam (0-hour-45-minute): Written examination, 45 min

Educational Aims
Students will learn and practise the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing with an emphasis on developing an interactional competence for specific purposes related to the course programme, and a basic cultural awareness of Korean culture.Learning Outcomes
