Summary

- The module’s content revolves around topics related to tourism (traveling, booking hotels and restaurants, meeting people from different nationalities, …).
- Students should develop a basic understanding of everyday vocabulary, understand the rules of pronunciation and have a basic grasp of the relevant grammar for this level. They should also develop an awareness of the cultures in the countries where the target language is spoken.
- The sessions will consist of a variety of activities arising from the themes and structures that underpin the course program. The module will be delivered in a blended mode with students having access to a virtual learning environment with extra activities and resources. Students are also required to undertake a program of autonomous learning.

- Students enrolling on this module must be complete beginners in French.
- The Language Centre reserves the right to check students’ prior learning and qualifications and to move students to a more appropriate level if necessary.

This module is capped to the number of 60.

Please note this module is assessed at the end of Autumn semester. First sit/ Resit exams are scheduled normally in the summer and can take the same form as the missing/ failed component of the assessment (exam, essay etc.) or other form, as decided by the School.

 

Target Students

- This module assumes no prior knowledge of the language.-It introduces the basic structure of the language and develops the students’ ability to communicate at a beginner's level.

Classes

The second seminar will be designed as an online task.

-Students will learn and practice the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing, with an emphasis on developing an interactional competence for specific purposes related to the course program (traveling, talking about means of transportations, countries and nationalities, …), and a basic cultural awareness from the target language countries
