Summary

The course introduces students to contemporary issues within health promotion and public health. The course explores current debates and emerging health promotion and public health issues worldwide and analyses the response to these by government bodies and health organisations.
Content will cover:
topical issues in health promotion and public health at local national and global level.
multimedia campaigns in the context of current health promotion and public health initiatives 
barriers and facilitators to change in the context of larger scale campaigns for individuals and communities

Students on the BSc Health Promotion and Public Health Academic Plan

Classes

There will be 60 hours tutor led teaching – the 140 hours remaining hours are allocated for self-directed study activities, tutorials and assignment support

Educational Aims

The course will explore current health promotion and public health debates, emerging issues globally and analyse responses from governing bodies and health organisations.

Demonstrate understanding of topical issues in health promotion and public health

Explore multimedia campaigns in the context of current health promotion and public health initiatives

Critically appraise large scale interventions to promote healthy behaviour and behavioural change

Evaluate the application of theoretical models in multimedia campaigns

Explore barriers and facilitators to change in the context of larger scale campaigns for individuals and communities

Develop a plan for a multimedia campaign targeting a contemporary public health topic
