This course will cover the following learning topics:

Evidence based public health and health promotion
Evidence identification and searching
Critical appraisal of evidence
Quantitative research methods
Qualitative research methods
Mixed research methods
Service evaluation and audit

Students on the BSc Health Promotion and Public Health academic plan

Classes

There will be 60 hours tutor-led teaching - the remaining 140 hours are allocated for self-directed study activities, tutorials and assignment support

This course aims to introduce the concept of evidence based public health and health promotion, in order to support the appraisal of evidence

Learning Outcomes

Define evidence based practice in relation to public health and health promotion

Identify sources of available public health evidence from local, national and global resources

Differentiate between qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods research approaches

Explain methods used to evaluate public health and health promotion activities

Demonstrate an ability to appraise public health evidence from local, national and global resources
