Summary
This module considers sustainability of tourism and impacts on environment and peoplesÂ’ livelihoods, transport and sustainable tourism, case studies from various countries, island tourism and tourism life cycle assessment.
Target Students
Available to Bioscience students and exchange/mobility students Available to JYA/Erasmus students.
Classes
- One 2-hour lecture each week for 11 weeks
- One 10-hour field studies
Activities may take place every teaching week of the Semester or only in specified weeks. It is usually specified above if an activity only takes place in some weeks of a Semester
Assessment
- 50% Coursework: One 1,000 words individual report on field trip
- 50% Exam (1-hour-30-minute): One 1.5 hours examination (answer one question from three)
Educational Aims
To provide an overall understanding of the often complex and changing relationships between Tourism and the Environment. To explore past problems and future challenges in the management of Tourism-Environment interactions. To use case studies from around the world to examine debates and issues in the practical management of Tourism and the Environment, as both concepts and land uses. To look at both the positive and negative impacts that tourism development can have on natural environments (habitats or fauna and flora).Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module students will be able to:
