Target Students
Primarily postgraduate students on the Master of Public Health, Master of Public Health (Global Health) and Master of Public Health (Health Research). Places will be available to new staff and PhD students in the School of Medicine who require training as part of their research role.

- One 2-hour lecture each week for 11 weeks

- 100% Coursework 1: Coursework (2,500 words) or equivalent

Educational Aims
The aim of this course is to provide an introduction to issues relating to sustainability, climate, and the environment in the context of public health worldwide.Learning Outcomes
This course will provide students with a broad understanding of the role of sustainability, climate, and the environment for public health worldwide.
The specific learning outcomes will include:
Knowledge and understanding:
1) Discuss the relevance of sustainability of public health and health systems, including the impact on health, and strategies to promote sustainability in public health research, policy, and practice;
2) Identify how climate change may impact on public health, and key public health issues emerging in the context of a changing climate;
3) Describe the relevance of the environment for human public health, and critically explore how other sectors (e.g. animal, plant) or global processes (social, economic, and demographic factors) can influence environmental health.
Skills:
1) Application of a ‘One Health’ approach to understanding the role of sustainability, climate, and the environment in public health worldwide;
2) Integration of knowledge across disciplines and sectors to investigate environmental public health issues and inform sustainable research, policy, and practice;
3) Ability to critically examine the bidirectional relationship of public health and the wider environment, and the interrelationship between public health, climate, the environment, and sustainability.
