Summary

This module requires a student to complete a placement at an external organization carrying out professionally supervised practical training. The industrial training must last a minimum of twelve consecutive weeks in the same company or institution. While it is difficult to provide general criteria for the type of work performed, it is expected that the training will be relevant to the engineering discipline of study, as judged by the relevant Department.

Target Students

B/MEng Part II Engineering students of the Malaysia Campus

Classes

carry out a minimum of 12 consecutive weeks of professionally supervised practical training, which is relevant to the student's discipline of studies, in an external organization.

Assessment

Educational Aims

1. To expose students to the practical working environment;2. To expose students to specific practices in their respective areas of specialization;3. To increase the student's knowledge, skills and experience of industry;4. To produce graduates with the competencies expected by employers;5. To increase employment opportunities;6. To forge a closer network between the university and industry.

Learning Outcomes

LO1: Ability to understand and identify the work health and safety requirements at the workplace.

LO2: Understand and demonstrate adherence to professional and ethical engineering responsibilities and principles.

LO3: Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in a variety of ways, including written, oral, pictorial and graphical means, for engineering and business purposes.

LO4: Ability to execute tasks independently and as a team member in a range of working roles.

LO5: Ability to recognise the need for, and to participate in lifelong learning activities for professional development.

LO6: Ability to apply management and business techniques and practices to organize tasks, resources and manage work to meet deadlines.
