Summary
This module covers the various aspects of knowledge that are required to fluently use a word: meaning, written form, spoken form, grammatical properties, frequency, register, collocation, and association. Practical aspects of teaching vocabulary will also be covered, including vocabulary teaching activities, vocabulary learning strategies, vocabulary testing and the use of corpora.
Target Students
Only available to on-site postgraduate students in the School of English.
Classes
- One 2-hour workshop each week for 11 weeks
Assessment
- 100% Assignment: One 3,000 word assignment. Failure to comply with ethics requirements will result in a maximum possible mark of 40% for the module

This module aims to provide students with an overview of second language vocabulary studies.Learning Outcomes
Knowledge and understanding of aspects and issues in second language vocabulary studies.

- demonstrating the ability to articulate systematic knowledge and/or a critical awareness of selected topics within second language vocabulary studies.
Transferable skills:
- demonstrating the ability to make judgements according to the available evidence, and the ability to communicate ideas and findings clearly by applying the academic style of a particular research paradigm.
