Summary
A specialist study of an individual topic in depth, the topic to be approved by the Director of Undergraduate Studies.
Target Students
Optional for all Final-year students on Single and Joint Honours English programmes. Not available for students on English with Creative Writing.

- 100% Assignment: 7,000 word dissertation

Educational Aims
This module will provide students with the opportunity toresearch in depth a topic of their choice, under the supervision of an expert member of staffpresent a sustained analysis of their work, thus developing their capacity for independent studyLearning Outcomes
Knowledge and understanding of:
- an area of study covering an area within the study of language or literature
- fulfilment of this requirement will be one of the criteria used by the Director of Undergraduate Studies in approving the topic
Intellectual skills
- the ability to think independently within the intellectual framework of current scholarship in the chosen topic
- the ability acquire substantial quantities of information on the chosen topic and select and organize the material within the framework of your choice
Professional skills
- the ability to write accurately and grammatically, and to present written material using conventions appropriate to literary or language work in the School of English
- the ability to construct and communicate a sustained written analysis of texts
- the ability to carry out research independently, evaluate and make use of the material acquired
