Summary
The dissertation is an extended writing project in an area of writing chosen by you. It must be appropriate to your degree programme and approved by the convenor.

Offered only to students in the final year of BA English with Creative Writing.

Further Activity Detail: Students can either focus their portfolio on one literary form: fiction (3500 words) or poetry (up to 120 lines) or drama script (approx 45 mins duration);ORa hybrid of two literary forms, as approved by the convenor
Assessment
- 70% Coursework 1: Portfolio of original writing specific to literary form either focus on: fiction or poetry or drama script OR a hybrid of two literary forms
- 30% Coursework 2: One 1000-word reflective essay to be accompanied by dated drafts
Educational Aims
This module will provide students with the opportunity to explore in depth an area of writing of their choice, under the direction of a member of staff develop a sustained engagement with their creative work, thus developing their capacity for independent study.Learning Outcomes

- the ability to produce original and creative work independently in the chosen area or areas
- the ability to recognise their strengths and weaknesses within a chosen genre(s)
- the ability to locate their work within the contemporary context of their chosen genre(s)

- the ability to write accurately and grammatically, and make skilful use of language, employing appropriate techniques and manipulation of form
- the ability to choose appropriate form and genre, construct original sustained or sequential piece(s) of fiction or poetry or drama
- the ability to write independently, redrafting the work to an appropriate standard;
- the ability to write a reflective essay which will draw on drafts and wider reading, will give students insights into their own working practices over a sustained period, and which will demonstrate the analytical skills expected of an undergraduate at this level;
- the ability to seek, evaluate and respond to feedback;the ability to present work in a professional manner
