Summary
This is an advanced course in the linguistic analysis of literary texts and reading. Building on the Level 2 'Literary Linguistics' course, the module bridges the gap between literary and linguistics aspects of the BA degrees. The course emphasises in particular aspects of literary style, from a readerly, perspective as well as adding a historical dimension to the study of style. There is also an emphasis on the practical application of literary linguistic pedagogy, in accordance with the educational and applied linguistic traditions of the discipline.
Target Students
Only available for final-year students on SH and JH English programmes; including 2+2 programmes; students participating in exchanges from the School partner institutions; and final-year students on the Liberal Arts programme. ENGL1002 Studying Language is a pre-requisite for this module.

- Coursework 1 - Formative: 1 formative essay (unassessed but receiving feedback)
- 100% Coursework 2: Coursework 2 - 1 x 3500 word essay
