Summary
The module is designed to provide students with an understanding of the process of English Language Teaching (ELT) and of the theoretical underpinnings of this practice. In this module students will learn the principles behind the learning and teaching of key aspects and skills of English, including vocabulary, grammar, reading, writing, speaking, listening and intercultural communicative skills. Students will also learn how to apply these theoretical principles to the development of teaching material. This module will therefore be of interest to students who want to pursue a teaching career, and in particular to those interested in teaching English as a second or foreign language.
Target Students
Optional for all final-year students on single and joint honours English programmes, including QQ33 English Lang and Lit (2+2) and QQ13 English Lang and Applied Linguistics (2+2).This module is open to exchange students hosted by the School of English from the following institutions, provided they have relevant subject knowledge and background: University of Oslo, University of Helsinki, Heidelberg University, Ruhr University Bochum, Leiden University, Ca Foscari University of Venice, City University Hong Kong, University of Queensland, Concordia University, McGill University, University of Auckland, Oregon State University, University of Connecticut, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Lehigh University, University of Arizona, and University of Zurich. ENGL1002 Studying Language is a pre-requisite for this module.
