This module provides a basic knowledge of functions, the intuitive ideas of limits and continuity, and the techniques of differentiation. This module covers:

Target Students
All Engineering foundation students
Classes
- One 1-hour tutorial each week for 11 weeks
- One 2-hour lecture each week for 11 weeks
Activities may take place every teaching week of the semester or only in specified weeks. It is usually specified above if an activity only takes place in some weeks of a semester
Assessment
- 30% Test: 1.25 hoursĀ In Class Exam
- 20% Coursework: Two quizzes (30 minutes each)
- 50% Final Exam (2-hour): 2 hours Final Exam
Educational Aims
This module aims to provide a solid foundation understanding in calculus, which covers the area of functions, limits and continuity, odd and even functions, derivatives and solving problems related to differentiation.Learning Outcomes
1. Demonstrate understanding in function, domain, range, one-one function, inverse function and composition of functions
2. Demonstrate understanding on the meaning of limit of a function of two or more variables, undefined conditions of a functions and asymptote
3. Apply the transformations such as translation and stretching and to graph of basic functions
4. Sketch graphs / curves of rational and irrational functions with or without asymptotes
