This is an introductory chemistry course that provides a solid foundation for students to prepare them for the engineering degrees in their undergraduate studies.

- One 1-hour tutorial each week for 10 weeks
- One 2-hour lecture each week for 10 weeks
- One 2-hour laboratory each week for 10 weeks
Assessment
- 10% Technical Report: Lab practicals and technical reports
- 30% Test: 1 hr 15mins In Class Exam
- 60% Final Exam (1-hour-30-minute): 1 hr 30mins Final Exam
Educational Aims
The ability to carry out an effective information search and present their findings in a technical report.The ability to deliver structured report/presentations both written and verbal using essential IT software and skills.The ability to adopt logical reasoning and critical thinking in contextualize information while formulate creative and innovative solution in problem solving.The development of appropriate soft skills that are important for science and engineering profession.The ability to enhance usage of academic English and develop academic study skills.Learning Outcomes
1. To provide students with basic understanding of the atomic structure, nature of different chemical bondings and shapes of molecules. 2. To introduce students to the uses of chemical equations, calculations of reactant and product quantities and basic organic chemistry. 3. To equip students with the necessary knowledge required in order to perform practical duties in the laboratory.
