Summary
This year-long module will build up on basic understanding of AC and DC power and circuits to develop students a good understanding of electric drives and electrical systems for aerospace applications with awareness of security implications.
Target Students
Students must be on one of the Aerospace Engineering courses H402, H40A, H400, H40B.
Assessment
- 20% Coursework 1: LO5
- 20% Coursework 2: LO3, LO4
- 10% Laboratory 1: LO2
- 50% Exam 1 (2-hour): LO1, LO3, LO5

Educational Aims
The aim of this module is to develop students good understanding of electrical system and its control for aerospace applications with awareness of security implications.Learning Outcomes
LO1 - Understand and apply suitable techniques to analyse AC and DC circuits in an aerospace context (AHEP 1)
LO2 - Use experimental techniques to evaluate the operation and performance of electrical and electronic circuits (AHEP 12)
LO3 - Demonstrate understanding of the operation of electrical drives in aircraft electrical power systems (AHEP 1, 3)
LO4 - Apply appropriate techniques to determine the preliminary sizing of electrical components for aircraft electrical power system (AHEP 2)
LO5 - Understand the operation of electrical equipment on aircraft with awareness of security implications and mitigation (AHEP 4, 10)
