Summary
This module provides an introduction to electronic systems and information. The module takes a “top down” approach, starting with signals and analogue/digital systems before moving on to look at electronic devices and finally communications. The module uses MATLAB and spice simulation to reinforce the taught material. The material covered is split into five topics: Signals, Analogue Systems, Digital Systems, Analogue Devices and Communications

Educational Aims
To introduce students to the fundamental characteristics of electrical power systems including the typical components used in these systems, and to develop their ability to predict the behaviour of these systems using analytical tools and techniques.Learning Outcomes
1. Design operational amplifier circuits
2. Design first-order filter circuits
3. Design combinational digital circuits
4.Design sequential digital circuits
5. Analyse simple circuits that include diodes
6. Analyse basic transistor circuits
7. Apply the fundamental processes used in analogue and digital communications
8. Calculate the impact of noise on a simple system
