Summary

This module focuses on ensuring that participants understand the context within which they are working and are able to plan and teach appropriate learning activities and support students effectively. The module starts with a focus on their own philosophy, role and context and explores the notion of a reflective practitioner. The focus then switches to their students and explores theories of how students learn. This is followed by a focus on planning and teaching learning activities and developing effective learning environments.

Target Students

Available for students studying the PG Cert Higher Education Global Programme.

This module is delivered through a mix of in person induction and online learning.

Working with a range of global HE perspectives, Module 1 aims to provide you with opportunities to develop knowledge and skills to teach and support learning in your local context.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this module, participants will be able to:

Explore personal beliefs and values that influence approaches to teaching and supporting learning 

Plan and reflect on a teaching and learning activity drawing on relevant theory and literature

Develop effective strategies to support the needs of diverse learners in physical and/or virtual environments

Critically reflect on approaches to teaching and supporting learning

Collaborate with colleagues from diverse academic backgrounds to enhance practice

Communicate effectively in a scholarly manner
