Summary
This module considers the following key areas:
- Typical and atypical development of communication
- Typical and atypical development of literacy/learning including specific learning difficulties/dyslexia
- Communication and literacy/learning assessments and interventions
- Understanding autism and Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Communication and literacy/learning for children with learning disabilities including Autism, Down Syndrome and Dyslexia
- Effective teaching and learning environments
Target Students
Students registered on the MA in Special and Inclusive EducationProgramme, also available to MA Education students. There are a limited number of places on this module. Students are reminded that enrolments which are not agreed by the Offering School in advance may be cancelled without notice.
Classes
30 hours of face to face sessions, Guided/private study: 270 hours, Tutorial support: 60 minutes

- 100% Coursework 1: 1000 words assignment AND presentation

Educational Aims
To develop in participants an awareness of:theory relating to special education needs, focusing on development of language, literacy and learningpractical aspects of meeting the special needs of pupils, focusing on those with communication and literacy/learning difficultieshow the development of language and the literacy facilities learningtheoretical models of development and how these can inform the meeting of a diversity of needsa typical developmental difficulties such as communication impairments and dyslexiaLearning Outcomes
