Educational Aims

The module aims to:develop in participants an understanding of the tools, methods, and culture characteristic of current research on educational technology;develop a critical understanding of how developments of learning technology for learning can be evaluated;enable students' understanding of the process of research design;provide students with the skills to conduct educational research.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge and understanding  
This module develops knowledge and understanding of: 
 

the relevant genre of research dissemination  

the dominant methodologies recruited to study impacts of educational technology  

qualitative and quantitative techniques appropriate to the collection and analysis of educational research data. 

Intellectual skills  


This module will develop: 
 

critical thinking in relation to analysis necessary for the development of credible theory and practice  

the capacity to select investigative techniques appropriate to solving particular problems of educational practice  

the ability to communicate research findings in a clear and accessible manner. 

Professional/practical skills  
This module will develop: 
 

the ability to execute the central methods appropriate for educational research questions  

confidence and proficiency in the oral and written presentation of research findings  

familiarity with modes of dissemination and discourse characteristic of the educational research community. 

Transferable/key skills  


This module will develop: 
 

the ability to critically analyse practice  

the ability to carry out research and evaluation  

the ability to search and scrutinise the published literature of educational research.
