- One 1-hour tutorial each week for 12 weeks
- One 1-hour lecture each week for 12 weeks
Assessment
- 50% Assignment 1 (Individual): Critically evaluate two core textbooks on Teaching of Listening & Speaking (2500-3000 word assignment)
- 50% Assignment 2 (Group): Plan, design, prototype, evaluate a Listening and Speaking project based on Design-Based Learning Approach Portfolio (Blog)

Educational Aims
This module aims to build on the principles of communicative teaching with particular focus on oral language. The structure of spoken language is examined. The underlying theories of oral communication will be explored including communication theories, ritual and social events, schema theory, and speech acts. It will reinforce the concept of setting criteria for successful language learning. The teaching of listening and speaking is central to good language teaching since they are important for both classroom exposure and lifelong language needs.There are three aims in this module and they are:1. to introduce the theoretical concepts of listening and speaking processes;2. to examine effective ways to conduct pre-listening, while-listening, and post-listening activities;3. to examine effective ways of conducting speaking activities in an English language class4. to examine how to best assess learners’ ability to listen to and speak in EnglishLearning Outcomes

A1 Broad understanding of current issues related to teaching and learning of Listening and speaking in schools
A2 theoretical and practical knowledge about teaching the Listening and Speaking skills;

B2 critically analyse texts, curriculum documents, research findings and experiential learning;
B3 develop inquiries into learning and teaching of Listening and Speaking skills and apply the knowledge gained;
