Summary
This module introduces students to developments of language teaching methodology. It traces a brief history of language teaching methodology and its developments over the years. This module will look at methodology from the lens of three traditions: psychology (Direct & Audio-lingualism), humanism (Community Language Learning, The Silent Way, Suggestopedia & Total Physical Approach) and sociology (Communicative Language Teaching & Task-based Language Teaching). Students will be given opportunities to design and carry out simulated teaching activities in classes.

Only available for School of Education Level '03' students
Classes
- One 1-hour tutorial each week for 24 weeks
- One 1-hour lecture each week for 24 weeks
This module consists of 40 hours of teaching and 160 hours independent study
Assessment
- 40% Coursework 1: Essay 2000 words - Disclaimer: Coursework may vary in different semesters
- 40% Coursework 2: Coursework 2 - Teaching Demonstration & Reflection
- 20% Coursework 3: Presentation - Lesson plan
