Summary

Students are required to work independently to produce a research-based essay on one particular area of their specialism, either TESOL or Special Educational Needs.
Students are expected to submit a summary of their progress to the module convenor every fortnight, to form the basis of the discussion at their fortnightly individual tutorial.
1. Identification of research questions, research methods and key references to inform the research.
2. Data collection.
3. Data analysis.
4. Writing-up the enquiry.
5. Preparation for the research exhibition.

Target Students

Bachelor of Arts in Education and Bachelor of Education - TESOL

Classes

Individual tutorial support – a minimum of 5 hours’ support over the course of the semester70 hours’ self or private study

Assessment

Educational Aims

To conduct an extended research inquiry, collecting school-based data, analyzing the results and writing-up the project with particular attention to the implications for students’ professional practice. To explore a particular topic in substantial depth within the student’s chosen specialism, either TESOL or Special Educational Needs.To develop the skills needed to become a reflexive practitioner-researcher.
