Summary
This module is designed to introduce you to the concept of disability and to the field of special education. The history, etiology, and characteristics of specific categories of disability will be examined, as will educational programs designed to meet the needs of school-age students with disabilities. Topics germane to the study of disability and the field of special education, such as inclusion and impact of disability on families, will also be explored.

Educational Aims
The module provides an introduction to understanding and identifying the issues around working with pupils with Special Educational Needs within different school contexts. It examines how we identify special needs, and how we address those needs in educational contexts. This module introduces students to approaches in effective and contemporary instructional strategies for managing students with special educational needs in the classroom.Learning Outcomes

B3 Develop an understanding of the systems, methods and tools which leads to effective instruction of students with special educational needs.
