Summary
The module examines theories of learning and theoretical views associated with cognition, language, personal, social and emotional development, learner differences and learner exceptionalities.

Bachelor of Arts in Education and Bachelor of Education TESOL

Educational Aims
This module aims to provide an introduction educational psychology for understanding learning and teaching.Learning Outcomes
A. Knowledge and understanding:
Students will develop:
A1 An understanding of the issues involved in child identity and development
A2 An understanding of the importance of social, economic and cultural factors in children’s learning and development
A3 An understanding of the nature of learning and some views about how this happens
B. Intellectual skills:
Students will develop:
B1 A critical appreciation of the wider relationships involved in children’s learning
B2 An ability to evaluate current and past debates about childhood
B3 An initial insight into learning theory
C. Professional practical skills: Students will develop:
C1 an appreciation in practice of how schools may change through different age ranges
C2 an ability to observe classrooms and identify and explain different practices

D1 demonstrate good written, verbal and non-verbal communication skills
D2 work independently, demonstrating initiative, self-organisation and time management
