Summary
This module equips students with the advanced knowledge and skills required to interpret between English and Chinese. It develops free simultaneous interpreting while teaching the skills of simultaneous interpreting with text. The module also introduces professional manners and ethics into the training.
Target Students
Students taking the MA in Interpreting and Translation and students studying in all other majors or programs at the University of Nottingham Ningbo, China.
Classes
- One 3-hour lecture each week for 10 weeks
Assessment
- 30% Coursework
- 30% Mid-term exam (0-hour-6-minute): Midterm exam in teaching week 6 on simultaneous interpreting without text, both ways about 6 minutes each (amounting to about 3120 in wordcount), or take-home examination.
- 40% Final exam (0-hour-8-minute): Final exam in the designated week on simultaneous interpreting without text, both ways, 6-8 minutes each. (amounting to about 4160 in wordcount), or take-home examination.
Educational Aims
The module enables students to develop further the competence and confidence to interpret between Chinese and English, with the additional component of simultaneous interpreting. They will develop the whole range of interpreting skills to a high level of professional competence.Learning Outcomes
