Summary
The dissertation will be a study in depth of a topic chosen by the student. It must be appropriate to the student's degree programme and approved by the Undergraduate Course Director.
Please note this module is assessed at the end of Spring semester. First sit/ Resit exams are scheduled normally in the summer and can take the same form as the missing/ failed component of the assessment (exam, essay etc.) or other form, as decided by the School.
Target Students
English Language and Applied Linguistics students; English with International Business students
Classes
- One 1-hour tutorial each week for 4 weeks
Further Activity Detail: Four tutorial meetings with designated supervisor. Tutorials 4 weeks 1 per week 1 hour. Activities may take place every teaching week of the Semester or only in specified weeks. It is usually specified above if an activity only takes place in some weeks of a semester. Additional training sessions such as how to use library resources may also be required.
Assessment
- 100% Dissertation: 8000 word dissertation
Educational Aims
This module will provide students with the opportunity to• research in depth a topic of their choice, under the direction of a member of staff• present a sustained analysis of their work, thus developing their capacity for independent study.Learning Outcomes
Knowledge and understanding of
• English language, applied linguistics or English literature topic; fulfilment of this requirement will be one of the criteria used by the Undergraduate Course Director in approving the topic Intellectual skills
