Summary
This module examines the use and influence of English as an international language. It, in the first place, provides students with an overview of the historical and social development of English including its spread as a global language through the processes of colonisation and globalisation. This module also considers how English continues to evolve in the 20th and 21st Century as an international lingua franca.
Please note: This module is assessed at the end of Spring semester. First sit/ Re-sit exams are scheduled normally in the summer and can take the same form as the missing/ failed component of the assessment (exam, essay etc.) or other form, as decided by the School.

BA Hons English students at UNNC.
Classes
- One 1-hour-30-minute seminar each week for 10 weeks
- One 1-hour-30-minute lecture each week for 10 weeks
Assessment
- 20% Portfolio: 5 formative assessment tasks distributed throughout the module
- 80% Coursework: 2500-word essay
