This module will provide an introduction to international monetary issues, including the determination of exchange rates and international spill-over effects.

Educational Aims

We learn various economic models in the open-economy context. Specifically, models we study help us consider topics relating to exchange rate determination; effectiveness of macroeconomic policies in a small open economy; international spill-over effects; current account balance; financial crisis. Various stylised facts are presented in relation to theories.

A4 Demonstrate understanding of verbal, graphical, mathematical and econometric representation of economic ideas and analysis, including the relationship between them.

B4 Be able to frame analysis of problems, identifying which parameters should be taken as fixed and why they might change.
