Summary
To explore basic soil behaviour in response to environmental 'stresses' and the fundamentals of subsurface contaminant migration and to apply these to in-situ geotechnical containment and contaminated ground remediation control technologies.
Target Students
BEng/MEng in Department of Civil Engineering
Classes
- One 3-hour lecture each week for 12 weeks
Assessment
Educational Aims
To develop an understanding of soil-contaminant interactions To study the mechanisms of contaminant transport To introduce the available technologies utilized for contaminant containment To introduce the technologies available for in-situ remediation of the geo-environment To acquaint students with the sources of literature in this rapidly developing areaTo develop an understanding of soil-contaminant interactionsTo study the mechanisms of contaminant transportTo introduce the available technologies utilised for contaminant containmentTo introduce the technologies available for in-situ remediation of the geo-environmentTo acquaint students with the sources of literature in this rapidly developing areaLearning Outcomes
- Judge and analyse complex and ill-defined technical issues of environmental geotechnology.
- Search out, collate and present relevant information which addresses the field.
- Communicate in a time-constrained situation written, verbal and visual responses to pre-set problems in the field.
- Utilize principles of the subject to solve models of behaviour.
Conveners
