Target Students
BEng/MEng in Department of Civil Engineering
Classes
- One 1-hour lecture each week for 12 weeks
Assessment
- 100% Exam 1 (2-hour): Course (module) specific two hour written examination.
Educational Aims
• To introduce engineering materials and their basic properties, principles in material selection and sustainability• To develop a basic understanding of the behaviour of construction materials.Learning Outcomes
• Describe the properties of an elastic material and model its behaviour.
• Describe material failure through a number of mechanisms and predict when this will occur.
• Describe principles in material selection and sustainability.
• Understand the factors influencing the behaviour of construction materials.
• Apply module content within the wider civil engineering context.
