Summary
This module will give students the opportunity to undertake a research project in Chemistry. A wide range of projects will be available and students will be offered a selection of research areas. All projects will require a review of relevant published work and the planning and execution of a research topic under the guidance of two supervisors. Students will present their findings orally and in a written report.
Target Students
Incoming Erasmus students taking a project for one year only. Suitable prior learning in home University to be assessed by Convenor and appropriate Faculty member.
Assessment
- 40% Coursework 1: Second re-assessment: If a further re-assessment is allowed by satisfying the conditions of Undergraduate Course Regulation 19, the form of the further re-assessment for this module will be 100% coursework.
- 40% Practical: Assessment of Experimental and Theoretical Work
- 20% Viva voce: Viva Voce at the end of the Project
Assessed in both autumn & spring semest
Educational Aims
To allow the student to experience chemistry research and to receive research training appropriate to their project. Successful students will have:1. collected, read and understood the background literature relevant to their project;2. designed and carried out experiments which have made some contribution to knowledge in their area of study;3. reported and critically evaluated their work in writing;4. made a clear oral presentation of their results.Learning Outcomes
