Summary

The objective of the course is to give students an overview of air pollution problems in modern society and to the range of techniques, which are available for its control. The sources and effects of the aor pollutants of majorconcern and the develoment of air quality criteria are discussed. Students are also introduced to the various techniques of air pollution measurement and their use in the assessment of the effects of industrial activity on air quality. An outline is presented on the current Malaysia environmental legislation, and the role of the assessment and control of air pollution in the planning application of a new industrial process. The course is also aimed to give the student an in depth understanding of the physical and chemical priciples behind the various processes that may be employed to control and disperse atmospheric pollutants.

Target Students

Available to Year 4 students of Chem Eng with Environmental Engineering. Others must comply with the requisite. Please consult the module convener. Also available to students registered on MSc in Chemical Engineering and MSc in Environmental Engineering.
