Summary

This module emphasises the vital skills and knowledge needed for success in business consulting or an internal consultant role within an organisation. It builds upon a student’s prior learning in finance, marketing, strategy, and more. Throughout the module, they will apply their accumulated knowledge and skills to manage real-world consulting projects, offering practical solutions and ethical recommendations. Students may work directly with clients or other third parties, receive industry feedback, or engage with industry case studies to address complex business challenges. This experience will enhance research, interpersonal, problem-solving, teamwork, communication, client focus, and influencing abilities.

Only available for students registered on taught postgraduate programmes in FASS.

Educational Aims

To enable students to:Design an appropriate methodology and framework to address complex business challenges, including those in the international business context and address contemporary industry issues;Effectively communicate complex ideas, articulate and defend solutions and findings persuasively to clients and colleagues both orally and in writing using a range of media;Develop structured and analytical approach(s) for business problem analysis and innovatively craft evidence-based consulting solutions with a critical mindset;Apply both quantitative and qualitative research methods to collect, analyse, and interpret data, utilising various modelling techniques and research methodologies;Work, collaborate and perform effectively in a team environment;Effectively build and maintain strong client relationships, managing expectations, and delivering high-quality consulting services;Develop time management skills and high levels of self-efficacy and take responsibility for learning and personal development.
