Summary
Business Project requires students, working as groups, to undertake research in a topic which is relevant to business, management, marketing, finance, accounting, or information system. The students must choose their research topic that is relevant to their named degree programme. The specific topic is subject to a formal approval process. The module is intended for students to apply knowledge, concepts, skills, and techniques, acquired during the taught stage of their programme to real-world, business scenarios. Students will be presented with real-word business problems for which they are required to review relevant literature, conduct research, analyse data, and formulate viable solutions.

Students on: MSc Accounting and Finance, MSc Banking and Finance, MSc Business Analytics, MSc Business and Management, MSc Finance and Investment, MSc Industrial Engineering and Operations Management, MSc Information Systems and Operations Management, MSc Logistics and Supply Chain Management, MSc Management, MSc Risk Management, MSc Supply Chain and Operations Management, MSc International Business, MSc Financial Technology, MSc International Tourism Management and Marketing. Also available to MSc Exchange students.
Classes
- One 1-hour seminar
- One practicum each week for 15 weeks
This module is taught through a combination of practicums and seminars.
Assessment
- 50% Report: 6,000 word individual report.
- 20% Group Presentation: 30 minutes.
- 30% Group Coursework: 3,500 words.

Educational Aims
To enable full-time MSc students to relate business issues to the available academic literature, to define a research question using a real business problem as a base, research and review the literature on the topic with the purpose of understanding and critiquing the current state of the research, and to develop a structured commentary leading to well-supported opinions and prescriptions.Learning Outcomes
Knowledge and understanding: This module develops a knowledge and understanding of:
- Tools and techniques for transforming qualitative and quantitative data into useful information for business analysis and decision support
Intellectual Skills: This module develops:
- Being able to think critically and be creative: manage the creative processes in self and others; organise thoughts, analyse, synthesise and critically appraise. This includes the capability to identify assumptions, evaluate statements in terms of evidence, detect false logic or reasoning, identify implicit values, define terms adequately and generalise appropriately.
- Being able to solve complex problems and make decisions: establish criteria, using appropriate decision-making techniques including identifying, formulating and solving business problems; and the ability to create, identify and evaluate options; the ability to implement and review decisions.
- Using information and knowledge effectively in order to abstract meaning from information and to share knowledge, including the use of quantitative skills
