Summary
This module provides an introduction to the manner in which social and environmental problems are incorporated into corporate strategy and managed across the business. Most enterprises are having to adapt to governmental regulation, however often businesses are going above and beyond the standards required by regulation. The first part of the course will introduce the theoretical foundations for the critical analysis of CSR, and the second part of the course will be an in depth analysis of strategic Corporate Social Responsibility across main business functions. The course will include a critical analysis of the relationship between Corporate Social Responsibility and firm performance.
Target Students
Business School MSc students subject to compliance with module choice requirements, as listed in the degree programme specification. In addition, other MA/MSc students subject to the discretion of the Director of MSc Programmes.
Classes
- One 2-hour lecture each week for 10 weeks
20 contact hours of lecture, 80 hours of self-study
Assessment
- 80% Coursework 1: 3,500 words individual coursework
- 20% ACP: Active class participation (20%)
Educational Aims
This module aims to introduce the concepts and frameworks used in the analysis and implementation of strategies for corporate social responsibility in order to facilitate learning towards the ideal of a competent responsible management professional who is able to design and implement strategic CSR initiatives.
