Summary
This module explores the effect of cultural differences on managerial and organisational behaviour in the global context. It will expose students to issues and problems that inevitably arise in international business when managers have to deal with culturally differences in values, attitudes and behaviours. Topics will include cultural diversity in organisations; organisational processes, theories and models for managing organisational culture, strategic change, across cultures and diversity cross-cultural leadership; cross-cultural teams; cross-cultural communication; and cross-cultural negotiation.
Target Students
Core Module for MSc International Management.
Classes
- Two 2-hour lectures each week for 11 weeks
40 contact hours, 160 hours of self-study time.
Assessment
- 64% Coursework 1: Individual Coursework (3,000 word essay)
- 16% Presentation 1: Group Presentation (15 minutes)
- 20% ACP - Participation: Active class participation (20%)
Educational Aims
The principle aims of this module are to facilitate an understanding of the nature of managerial and organisational behaviour in the global context by developing student awareness and skills relating to international and cross-cultural management.The module will consider different theoretical approaches to cultural difference with reference to emic and etic perspectives. The module will address the key question concerning how national culture influences managerial and organisational practices.Learning Outcomes
