Summary
The module focuses on the broad aspects of employment regulation, relating to all elements that circumscribe unilateral decision-making power of management with regard to employment matters. Topics cover include modes of workforce voice and participation, conflict, equality and diversity, and the role of the state and the law.
Target Students
Core module for MSc Human Resource Management and Organisation students and MSc Exchange students.
Classes
- One 4-hour lecture each week for 11 weeks
11 x 4 hour block lectures / small group teaching, comprising case studies and exercises BREAKDOWN OF HOURS: 44 hours of lectures and class activities; 80 hours independent study and background reading; 76 hours coursework preparation. Total 200 hours.
Assessment
- 100% Coursework: Individual Coursework (4,000 words).Reassessment of this module will be 100% coursework (4000 words)

• Being able to think critically and be creative: manage the creative processes in self and others; organise thoughts, analyse, synthesise and critically appraise. This includes the capability to identify assumptions, evaluate statements in terms of evidence, detect false logic or reasoning, identify implicit values, define terms adequately and generalise appropriately
Professional Practical Skills: This module develops:
• The ability to recognise and address ethical dilemmas, corporate social responsibility and sustainability issues, applying ethical and organisational values to situations and choices

This module develops:
• Effective communication: networking, listening, oral and written communication of complex ideas and arguments, using a range of media, including the preparation of business reports
• Soft skills: understanding the needs of others and empathy towards them; sensitivity to diversity in people and in different situations
