Summary
The course prepares students to analyse the financial performance of companies, to assess their prospects and to estimate their valuation. The course is structured primarily from the point of view of investors and analysts, rather than from a company perspective. The course teaches students both theoretical and practical understanding of the financial performance of companies, and how to apply it for valuation.
Target Students
Available for MSc Accounting and Finance students who are studying BUSI4406 Current Issues in Accounting and MSc Exchange students.

Classes
- One 1-hour seminar each week for 4 weeks
- One 2-hour lecture each week for 11 weeks
Assessment
- 100% Coursework: 3,000 words.

Educational Aims
On completion of this module, students will gain an ability to analyse the financial performance of companies, and to show the links between accounting statements, valuation methods and investment analysis. Students will be able to read financial statements, conduct financial analysis including applying valuation models and ratios, and to make forecasts and valuations.Learning Outcomes
Knowledge and understanding: This module develops a knowledge and understanding of:
• The dynamics of the global economy and international business &/or an awareness of cultural, legal/regulatory, political, and economic differences across countries &/or an appreciation of management issues from a global perspective.
• The use of accounting and other information systems for managerial applications
• Tools and techniques for transforming (big) data into useful information for business analysis and decision support
Intellectual Skills: This module develops:
• Using information and knowledge effectively in order to abstract meaning from information and to share knowledge, including the use of quantitative skills
Professional Practical Skills: This module develops:
• The ability to conduct research and enquiry into business and management issues either individually or as part of a team through research design, the collection and analysis of quantitative data, synthesis and reporting
