Summary

Students will research and prepare an individual dissertation on an approved subject in the area of Logistics and Supply Chain Management. The dissertation will emphasise leading edge thinking in theory and practice of the subject, through critical awareness of current published research and research methods.

Target Students

Only available for MSc Logistics and Supply Chain Management students.

Classes

Contact hours for this module comprise a mix of face-to-face meetings, group workshops, mentoring and study clinics, video/telephone calls, email conversations, and peer-to-peer feedback sessions. The onus is on the student to engage with all contact time offered in alignment with the requirements of their studies. Students must remain in communication with the supervisory team throughout their dissertation studies.

Educational Aims

Develop ability to undertake independent research in the area of logistics and supply chain management. Carry out independent research of a qualitative and/or quantitative nature.

•Being able to think critically and be creative: manage the creative processes in self and others; organise thoughts, analyse, synthesise and critically appraise. This includes the capability to identify assumptions, evaluate statements in terms of evidence, detect false logic or reasoning, identify implicit values, define terms adequately and generalise appropriately
•Using information and knowledge effectively in order to abstract meaning from information and to share knowledge, including the use of quantitative skills
•The ability to write extensive and incisive reports

•Effective communication: networking, listening, oral and written communication of complex ideas and arguments, using a range of media, including the preparation of business reports
