This module is an opportunity for students to work largely independently and in depth on a relevant subject of their choice to be approved by staff from the School of Business.

Educational Aims

To develop discipline-based knowledge and skills via an in-depth study of a business problem or research issue.As a capstone module , this will draw widely on skills and knowledge acquired throughout the degree. It will develop the student’s abilities in the areas of independent study, including time management, critical analysis, written communication and in most cases relevant quantitative skills. This module provides an opportunity for students to showcase their achievements.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge and understanding

This module develops a knowledge and understanding of the topic area selected for study in the dissertation./project.

Intellectual skills
This module develops:
 

•  The ability to analyse facts and circumstances to determine the cause of a problem and identifying and selecting appropriate solutions.
•  The ability to analyse and evaluate a range of business data, sources of information and appropriate methodologies, which includes the need for strong digital literacy, and to use that research for evidence-based decision-making.
•  Conceptual and critical thinking, analysis, synthesis and evaluation.

Professional practical skills
This module develops:
 
 •The ability to conduct research into business and management issues,  including a familiarity with a range of business data and research resources and appropriate methodologies

Transferable (key) skills
This module develops:

•  Self-management and a readiness to accept responsibility and flexibility, to be resilient, self-starting and appropriately assertive, to plan, organise and manage time.
